President Barzani Receives U.S. Consul General in Erbil

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, President Masoud Barzani received Ms. Gwendolyn “Wendy” Green, the U.S. Consul General in Erbil, in Pirmam.

Consul General Green expressed her pleasure at assuming her duties in the Kurdistan Region and affirmed her commitment to strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States. She said the United States remains a steadfast supporter of the people of Kurdistan and holds President Barzani in high regard for his role in Iraq and the wider region. She also expressed hope that the Kurdistan Region would continue to contribute to regional stability.

President Barzani welcomed Consul General Green and thanked the United States for its support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region in the fight against ISIS. He described the resumption of the U.S. Consulate’s duties in the Kurdistan Region as a positive step toward advancing cooperation across various fields.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in the region and underscored the importance of strengthening security and stability.
